About the College

Dayanand Arya Kanya Degree College is situated in Moradabad which is not only U.P.’s but whole Asia’s biggest brass exporting city. A great stalwart and industrious social worker Late Sri Dayanand Gupta, Advocate, established this institution in 1960. Initially, it got the affiliation from Agra University, Agra for the faculty of Arts only. Consequently, the graduation classes were started in five subjects: Hindi, English, Home science, Economics and Education with only six students. The Science faculty got recognition in 1964. In 2002-03 Post -graduate classes were started in Hindi and Zoology under self-finance scheme. Since then it has been the profound effort of the college to elevate its quality. The college authorities are striving to start PG classes in other subjects also. The college is also planning to build a big auditorium so that various workshops and demonstrations can be held there. A new feather in the cap is the Add-on course on Journalism and Mass Communication sponsored by UGC. The first batch that passed out got 100% placement in media industry.


The college has the goal of nullifying “the darkness of ignorance and illuminating it with the light of knowledge”. For this the college runs both the U.G. and P.G. level courses and imparts both education and skills to the students. The skill aspect of the teaching is promoted in the practicals of Home-Science, Psychology and Education, Chemistry, Zoology and Botany. The M.A. Hindi students are inspired to make creative writing their hobby and students are encouraged to make their skills their hobby and earning. The M.Sc. Zoology students are inspired to take keen interest in apiculture, pisciculture, poultry and aquarium making. As we are an affiliated college of the University, we have to strictly follow the curricula design of the university. But our University keeps on revising the syllabus according to the changing needs of the time. The college has representatives in the University Board of Studies and some teachers are engrossed in research projects as well. The college has started self- financed post graduate degree courses in Hindi as well as Zoology and keen to start PG classes in other subjects also. Moreover, the college has started UGC sponsored Add-on course in Journalism and Mass Communication also, the first three passed out batches got 100% placement. The Student Welfare organization works efficiently to look after the interest of the students.


The college has BA and B Sc courses as well as one add-on course on Journalism and Mass Communication. The students are admitted on merit basis. The institute tries its best to cater to the diverse needs of students belonging to the physically challenged, economically weaker sections and reserved and minority classes as well as the need of the advanced learners is also kept in mind. The institute also has provision for the remedial classes. All the teachers are appointed through the Higher Education Commission, Allahabad, U.P. The teachers endeavor to increase their efficiency to take the study courses by participating in various national as well as international seminars and workshops. They also attend the Orientation programmes and Refresher courses. They are made to write self- appraisal forms also. The performance of the students is assessed by different subject teachers in their different ways like giving class-tests, recitations or taking the feedback. That feedback is used to enhance the quality of the academics and also the teachers get a chance to understand, what the students want and in which direction they have to take their mode of teaching. Another highlight of the college evaluation method is the college deducts 10% marks of the students having trade in their XII standard while making the entrance merit list. The educationally disadvantaged students are given extra –support, while the outstanding Sports- persons and NSS volunteers, Rangers and NCC cadets are also given many incentives like weightage of marks, certificates etc. The students are facilitated in their teaching and learning through various workshops and seminars and also through the use of audio-visual appliances.


The freshers in the college are given all-encompassing informations about the choice of the subjects as well as the complete syllabus that help them to choose the subjects according to their interests. But even then, if the students feel some problems in handling the subjects, respective teachers give them counseling, after one month. The students are given a chance to change their subjects also. The Orientation programme at the beginning of the session proves vital to the students.


The institution is basically an undergraduate college with the post graduate courses only in Hindi and Zoology. Some teachers are involved in either guiding the research scholars or doing further research projects themselves. Four teachers are actively involved in minor research projects by UGC. In BA III and MA Final, Hindi Literature, Sociology, Psychology students are made to submit Projects and dissertation. The institute is actively involved in Extension activity with units like NSS, NCC and Rangers as well as college has a Committee on Community Development too.


This college is not very big but it makes optimum use of the available resources to cater to the higher standards of education. The college has well- equipped laboratories and an efficient library. The library is laced with a computer and furnished with internet too. We have two big halls where various workshops and events are held. This college is a centre for various entrance and departmental exams. Apart from this there is a disciplinary committee that is vigilant to check the students from any malpractices in the college regarding the cleanliness of the campus. We have a common room for the students to be used by them in their free periods. To promote sports activities we have a basket ball court and a table tennis room. We have two indoor games carom and chess also. We have a full- fledged Sports and Physical Education Department that looks after the training and arranging of sports events.


The college is located in the least polluted zone of the city. It is neither market prone nor residentially crowded. The college maintains a plain ground and a small but beautiful garden before the office building. The college has a beautiful lawn flanked by a hedge where students are allowed to sit and relax during the winter season. There is a canteen also for the students where they are sold refreshments so that they are not prompted to bring the eatables from outside. This also goes into maintaining the campus clean.


We do have ICT facility too. The college is doing its utmost to promote the learning among the students. To begin with the college publishes its annual prospectus which is quite elaborate to include the subject combinations, fees structure, teaching staff along with their qualification, rules of admission and discipline, various committees of the college. The college has a career counseling cell as well as a grievance redressal cell. The career counseling cell keeps on organizing various workshops for the same. The grievance redressal cell tries to solve the problem of the students and looks into their suggestions also. The college understands the significance of alumni-association, so the college has a well organized Alumni association that keeps on meeting at regular intervals. The college is very particular about anti-ragging norms and the members of the proctorial board are vigilant enough to check these measures. The Sports committee looks after the participation of students in different sports events.


The college works under a management committee in which there is a representation of teachers also. These teachers are four in number.. There is also a finance committee in which the senior most teacher of the teacher’s representatives is also a member . All the decisions are taken and implemented through the common consent of the members. The college is interested in the quality development of both teaching as well as non-teaching staff. The operational autonomy is given to the departments that works under the head of the department. These heads hold meetings with the Head of the Institute. The college endeavors incessantly to uphold healthy practices in its premises. To impart value-based education to the students the college keeps on organizing various workshops and also the units of NSS, NCC and Rangers try their best to organize events where students can get value-based education. Apart from other practices, a “havan” is organized on the death anniversary of the college founder. This practice teaches the students and the staff of the college to learn the feeling of gratitude. The college is very particular about celebrating National Festivals like Republic Day and Independence day with great verve and fervor to inculcate the feeling of patriotism and thankfulness in the students.


The college has different Committees like Admission committee, Vividh kala committee, Career Counseling and Placement Cell, Alumni Association, Discipline Committee, Library Committee, Magazine Committee, Cultural Committee and Sports Committee etc. The college is finally resolved to do away with its loopholes and march ahead with strong conviction in the efficiency of its faculty and students . To begin with the college is trying to run post graduate classes in other subjects also, apart from Hindi and Zoology .
